Frank Sanders – Outstanding Service Award – 1984-2007

In 1981, Frank began his journey in scouting by supporting his son in Cub Scouts as a Den leader and Webelos leader.

He crossed over to the Troop in 1984 at a critical time when the troop was in desperate need of both scouts and leaders. During that period, the troop had just 3 scouts and with the two new Webelos, the number rose to 5. In 1984 Frank joined the Troop as an Assistant Scoutmaster and a few months later became Scoutmaster. He began the process rebuilding of the Troop as we know it.

Next year the troop will celebrate its 90th anniversary and is one of the oldest troops in the area. That feat is not by accident, and our survival in the mid 1980s is greatly due to significant efforts of Frank Sanders.

Frank did not stop there he continued his service to the troop on the committee and has help in many areas including organize multiple trips to the National Jamboree; leading the huge effort of organizing past Troop anniversary celebrations; establishing the Scout of the Year program and leading the presentations of the Eagle Awards for many Eagle Scouts of the Troop.

A few months ago Frank Sanders notified the Troop that he will be taking a break from scouting. I can only hope that his break will be a short one.

Our Troop is lucky to have a leader like Frank Sanders who dedicates selfless, outstanding service for the youth. Frank has surely led by example. For that reason, the Troop would like to present to Francis W. Sanders the award for Outstanding Service.

His guidance and service to the troop over the years can not be overstated. It can be best expressed by the following letter from a scout led by Frank 20 years ago.

To: Frank Sanders
From: Michael McCullough
Date: 1/20/2007

Words cannot due justice for all Mr. Sanders has done for all the boy scouts in Troop 103, not only me. He was instrumental in me being able to attain my rank of Eagle Scout. I couldn’t have done it without him, and will always be indebted to him. He is a great man to lead the youth of today. His kindness, dedication and commitment are something all should try to achieve and share with others. I can only hope he was as proud of me, as a boy scout, as I was to have him as my troop leader. Thanks again for all you have done.

God Bless,

Michael McCullough
